Play & Creative Arts Therapy Roscommon was founded in 2018.
My name is Alanna Kearney and I am an Accredited Play Therapist with Play Therapy Ireland. I am also on the Professional Standards Authority list of professionals.
I obtained a post graduate diploma with The Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy affiliated to the National University Of Galway.
Previous to this I have completed various other studies such as psychology and childcare. I trained within the field of psychiatric nursing which then led onto studying C.B.T. I attended all relevant training courses in first aid, child protection, non-violent intervention, confronting bullying, mindfulness and much more. Having worked with children for more than twenty years, I have had the privilege of working with various organisations inclusive of child welfare agencies, hospitals, schools and institutional facilities. During this time with each organisation, I intuitively incorporated different modalities of play to enable children to cope with their individual, or group’s presenting needs. This has allowed me to gain an extensive wealth of knowledge and experience. It is this unique combination of skills and experience that is incorporated into our holistic play therapy service. Fully registered and insured.
An important part of my role as a therapist is to identify what clients and families need and to guide them through this therapeutic process. My life experience as a parent, and the vast knowledge gained over the years has given me a keen awareness and appreciation of children's needs.
Toys are children’s work and play is their language
